    I don’t see the point in locking threads to try and consolidate comments when new information is coming out and it’s only a handful of comments. It’s just pointless over moderation.

      I disagree, especially if it is news about an ongoing event with new information coming out. There actually is a rule about posting about ongoing events, but that aside; consolidating comments is valuable when new information is coming out so that the conversation going on can include the new information. Also, a mod cannot look into the future and know how many comments there will be made later.

        Hence me calling it over-moderation. It’s getting involved when there’s no need to. For example there was an article posted earlier that was locked and redirected to an article which I missed and wouldn’t have even checked because the title just wasn’t great. Though my poor geography may have been the cause for that. Also sometimes, in fact most times, I’m commenting on an article, not the subject matter.
