Energy expert Mikhail Krutikhin looks at Gazprom’s latest problems in Europe, where Russian gas exports have dropped to historical lows, but also points out the gas monopoly’s uncertain prospects in China and around the Caspian and Black seas.
This is russias gas infrastructure. It is built to serve Europe and not China.
Given enough time and no sanctions they might be able to built additional pipelines to China, but currently the “Power of Siberia 2” seems to be on ice at least until 2028. And China is also currently rolling out renewables on a big scale as Xi is smart enough to not get too dependent on Putin or an unstable Russia after Putin
Oof. Yeah. Looking at some capacities, while PoS1 is large, it’s not nearly as large as the total capacity of pipelines going to Europe at their peak. And yeah I’m aware of the renewable push, it’s why I’m mostly considering gas for industrial use such as steel, fertilizer, and other chemical production. At this point I think Xi and the CCP are smarter than Merkel and the CDU. :D

The Chinese will build their own pipeline after they retake Siberia.
