It’s not insane at all, it’s how things have gone every time since the French Revolution. The liberal centre allies with the left to defeat the right and get into power, then turns on the left to keep power, turning the right into a weapon. Then, when the left is defeated, the now radicalised right eats the centre, and the cycle repeats.
