I agree in principle, society is demonizing nudity and sex. This has got to change. Society needs to change in order to fix this and many other issues related to sex and nudity.

As long as it affects a persons reputation and their standing, this is a problem. Any person can harm someone with this technology, and as a society we can not accept that.

Most people could not make a decent fake sex tape with any person in the world with low effort before. Now they can.

Should creating deepfakes for personal consumption be legal/illegal? Distribution is the real problem. The rest is fantasizing with tools more or less. Some people will understandably not like it if they find out other people fantasize about them, but that is close to thought crime. What is acceptable? Is a stickdrawing with names too much? What if I am really good at realistic drawings? What if I draw many images in a book and make a physical animation of ouf it? Is the limit anything outside my head? What if I draw a politician fellating another one and distribute it as art/satire?

The short term solution is to ban deepfakes, the long term is probably something else, but I am not sure what. There is not inherently any actual abuse in deepfakes, there is no actual sex either. So it’s a reputational/honor and disgust thing. These things still matter a lot in societies, so we can’t ignore it either.

The problem is that cinema is not that great of an offer. The main reason for me is the artificial scarcity. Making the only place I can watch the movie, the cinema. If I look forward to the movie, I might pay the extra to watch it straight away. I do this max once a year. Next movie will probably be the last Dune movie.

I have a large OLED and can set the volume at a level I like. I can have subtitles if I want. The couch is bigger and more comfortable. I can pause the movie for a toilet break. I have a wife and pets I can cuddle under a blanket with.

The soda, candy and popcorn costs 1/4th.

It’s just better in most ways. I think the image looks better on OLED than on a cinema screen. I also think the volume at the cinema is too high.

Lastly watching it at home is also 1/4th the price also.

Great movie about life, love and finding who you are.

Some of us really want to. Hopefully some politicians put it on the agenda, so the discussions of a new vote can begin.

I do however think it’s good to have a little period for people to consider and publicly discuss it first, I think the majority is still negative or unsure. So it might be a couple of years

I am not advocating for anything specific here. Well… Maybe a bit using european clouds instead.

Cloud is probably the way to go in most cases. It’s more secure, more reliable, often cheaper, and less work.

As a dev I have had this workflow at a previous employer:

I start my Windows 11 work laptop. I write emails to my coworkers on Outlook, I take notes in OneNote, I make presentations in PowerPoint. We have remote meetings on Teams.

I use GitHub and GitHub Actions. I host packages on npm. I write my TypeScript code with VSCode with help from GitHub Copilot, the C# .NET Core code with Visual Studio.

I login in to everything usingusing Single Sign On with Active Directory.

And everything we make is of course run on Microsoft Azure.

Yes, everything mentioned here is owned or maintained by Microsoft.

I subscribe to a lot of full time “content creators” that are ad supported and supported via donations.

I curate my feed meticulously to avoid slop, and I get a lot of value, learning and entertainment from those I follow.

I believe they deserve to be paid for the tremendous amount of work they put in.

Some sort of ability to generate a livable wage from creating high quality content seems reasonable, no?

There is one thing that is vital that is missing from peertube. Effective monetization.

By watching on peertube I am a drain on resources. A net negative. I’d happily pay to offset those costs and more, but I want it to be shared amongst multiple creators and hosters.

I don’t want to just support one, I want to support most of the network for the hosting and bandwidth, and a certain amount divided amongst the creators I watch.

If PeerTube introduces some sort of payment / monetization solution, it might get more creators as well. Without it I can’t see it growing fast enough to compete with YouTube in the near future.

Well… Sooner or later the costs of Full HD compressed video will be negligible for hosting and bandwidth, so that might be when YouTube gets a real challenge. So I guess we’ll see

We need some sort of “immune system” to handle these extremes, deplatforming is kinda like moving the disease to another part of the body where there is no “immune system”. Defederating might create the same effect.

I don’t know how to handle it, but we might need more “normal” average people participating in a compassionate understanding way, with those that have lost their way. Because right now there are plenty of Russian bots that encourage the wildest conspiracies and world views, but also plenty of people with idle time on their hands encouraging it also.

We will meet this challenge more and more as the fediverse grows. At this moment it’s not worth the investment to spread misinformation probably.

Unfortunately, while Element is great, it does not support push to talk or a minimum dB to transmit sound. Which makes it a dealbreaker for gaming with friends, unfortunately.

This would be great and hilarious.

It is not a problem in many contexts. For instance complementing people in social non-work gatherings. “Wow, you look great in that suit”, or “You are even prettier than I remember”. Or when talking about someones ability to attract attention.

However in the context of an important message from a person, it derails the conversation and kinda just objectifies a person. As if it is more important than what they are saying or contributing.

It basically boils down to this: Do you want to be remembered for being good looking or your contributions to this world? How does it feel to be unsure if you got the job, because of looks? Or if people are listening because of your looks?
