This is kind of hilarious. Right wingers seek to limit privacy by forcing age verification online, and then the right wing social network gets caught in the same net. It hurt itself in it’s confusion.
France passed a law requiring porn sites to verify age of all site visitors. Pornhub is blocking France instead of forcing its visitors to provide ID.
American conservatives have always had distaste for Europe due to its different mores, more liberal political center, and general diversity of cultures. And also the overall view that anyone that isn’t “us” is “them”
Of course it’s the Dutch
The developer claims the tool is for cops, but anyone can sign up and use it for targeted harassment.

The same dumb stuff they did in the US.
Kids can access porn sites if unsupervised. So they blamed the porn sites for not properly age-verifying users. The only way to do that would be to force porn sites to check IDs. Porn site visitors want anonymity and are not going to enter their government ID on a porn site. So instead, those sites just block traffic from the states that passed the laws, and all the porn visitors either use a VPN to access the site anyway, or find an even shadier site to visit.

“This revision attempts to implement something that has been deemed illegal in the EU and the United States. The only country in Europe with a roughly equivalent law is Russia,” said Yen
“I think we would have no choice but to leave Switzerland,” said Yen. “The law would become almost identical to the one in force today in Russia. It’s an untenable situation. We would be less confidential as a company in Switzerland than Google, based in the United States. So it’s impossible for our business model.”
Any other country except Russia
