“Red fascist” is a term used pejoratively, you know? Are you saying Trump is a Bolshevik instead?
While both are authoritarians, one of the difference between Bolshevism/communism and fascism is that the latter embraces ultraconservatism and romanticising an idyllic past, whereas communists don’t. Trump and co. yearns back to some idyllic past and a return to it in some form. One of the definition of fascism is romanticising some glorious past when their people and things were “better”.

Trump is the president who happens to be the leading figure of MAGA movement and Project 2025, which are unquestionably fascist movements, and seeing as how his administration deliberately ignore court rulings and thereby undermining civil liberties, which is the key characteristic of fascism.
There are scholarly consensus already. It is not controversial. Unless you are trying to muddy the water.
I usually go by Umberto Eco’s points but some scholars added their own. By and large, most agree that aspects such as militarism, demonization of out-groups, belief in a strongman authority figure, and lack recognition of civil rights and liberties are key characteristics of fascism. Trump 2.0 has most if not all the characteristics of fascism. Even now, Trump refuses to comply with court orders, has police harass and grab people without lawful warrant, demonizes out-groups and threatening military action.
Now, this is the trading standards that we all ask for; not “be more racist” or repeal the protection on lgbt. Christ, American fascism is the weirdest i have seen. Fascism in the past didn’t even try to dictate the laws and regulations of other countries.
I heard he became a MAGA though. How ironic.
It is easy to very feel disillusioned with the world, but it is important to remember that there are still good people all around willing to fight the good fight. And it is also important to remember that technology is not inherently bad, it is a neutral object, but people could use it for either good or bad purposes.
Normally, I see any news on government blocking social media for any stated reasons as typically a cover for censorship. But with how Facebook and other social media morphed into something else, I could not care less if they are blocked.
We can see how we can benefit from it, once most of the value it produces no longer ends in the owner class’es pocket.
Yup, indeed. Remember when social media was celebrated as what enabled bottom up revolution in the Middle East 1 ? Well, a lot of people forgot about that, since big brained profiteers realised they can commercial people’s personal data and sell them to entities that will weaponise the innate dark insecurities of the people to influence public policies.
1 I am aware that the Arab Spring largely failed, but so did the Revolutions of 1848. In spite of failures, I believe that the ideas have been planted and will be nurtured for future generations to reap. Even though the liberal revolutions failed in Europe, the liberal values they tried to champion are now in place in Europe. I believe the same will happen in the Middle East but it will take generations to materialise.
