Backpackers commonly book no accommodations ahead of time. I’ve done that plenty.

Arrive at airport. Get cab. Drive to hotel number 1 and ask about room. Drive or walk to hotel 2 and ask about room. Repeat as often as desired. Return to hotel with best deal.

I can’t count how many times I’ve done this, having zero specific plans about where I am going to stay. Sometimes I just take the first hotel and then on the next day go look for something better. This is totally normal backpacker behavior.

I’m not aware of a way for it to notify if the internet is down. An expired certificate would not create that failure scenario though.

My experience running several ssh servers on uncommon nonstandard ports for over 10 years has been that it has eliminated all ssh brute forcing. I don’t even bother with fail2ban. I probably should though, just in case.

Also, PSA: if you use fail2ban, don’t try tab completing rsync commands without using controlmaster or you will lock yourself out.

It’s like a dream come true. When I was 7, I went to see Empire Strikes Back at a local theater in Sandusky Ohio, and as soon as I walked in and saw all the posters and smelled the popcorn and saw the theater lighting, I thought to myself “this would be absolutely perfect if only I could play pickleball.” Ever since then, whenever I feel like playing pickleball, I go to my local movie theater. It’s just astounding that there has not once been a pickleball court. But now the day has come. Finally we are getting something so obvious that it’s a wonder it’s taken so long for it to come into being. Pickleball in movie theaters. Because when I think of movie theaters, there’s nothing I want more than to play pickleball.

Seriously this. Any comment about a complicated system that starts with “just” can be ignored 99% of the time.
