  • I must admit that I don’t have much experience with buying second-hand.

My purchases so far have been 3 jeans, all of which were well-advertised, reasonably priced, and the sellers were all great. My one experience as a seller was also pretty reasonable: a buyer asked for a discount, I took too long to respond, they sent me a nice message saying they weren’t interested anymore; a second buyer asked for extra measurements, I provided them, they asked for a discount, I did it, and it was bought immediately. I simply can’t complain!

I’ve heard others’ complaints, though, so I know you’re not alone in your qualms. Payment options are a big deal for me… Vinted doesn’t support Portugal’s national system, which is a pain in the ass…

  • People are recommending good European brands — which you should definitely check out! — but I’d like to also recommend buying second-hand.

It’s cheaper, better for the environment, and you don’t have to worry about supporting American companies; Even if you buy from an American brand (Wrangler, Levi’s…), the money is going straight to a fellow European citizen and to whatever platform/website you buy it from, so you just have to make sure to use a European platform such as Vinted.

It might not be as convenient as buying straight from the brand, but it is better.

Is this kind of like a decentralized Visa/Mastercard network?

That’s nice, but most countries already have their national networks. I think the Digital Euro is probably a better solution, since (I believe) it’s in collaboration with the national networks, instead of replacing them.

IDK tho I’m not a specialist or anything, I’m not sure if I misunderstand this Taler thing…

    Searching

I feel like SearXNG goes way under-mentioned. It’s a meta search engine, basically a search engine aggregator…

    mobile Apps

Obtainium should be mentioned more. It’s not technically European, as its creator is Canadian, but it’s fully open-source. It’s an app that helps you manage other open-source apps. I feel like it’s a good way to avoid the Google Play Store, if you’re looking to use European open-source software.

    Passwordmanagers

KeePass is oft mentioned, but KeePassXC is better, IMO. Keepass2Android is the Android equivalent.
