My employer gives everyone in management a cell phone. At least once a quarter someone from management has to travel across the border to do site visits and the like. Most people will only carry the work phone when traveling because of CBP and TSA inspections.
This is why I switched to sceptre, they’re good quality, low cost, dumb displays.
So either the EU steps up and funds them until the administration tariffs the EU until they stop.
Or we rely on the big tech companies to step up and fund them and risk pissing off the administration.
Honestly the only way I see them coming back is either up root their lives and move to the EU with a funding guarantee, or the EU just sets up their own program.

I tried a variety of distros when I made the switch 9 or 10 years ago, Mint is by far my favorite. I’ve been running it continuously for at least the last 8 years.
Battle plans you use Signal, war plans your going to want Threema, Session, or SimpleX.
I use a knock off ergonomic keyboard from adesso. 60% of the time, it works every time.
You can still get them on Amazon for like $40 if you ever decide you want to relive the split key glory days.

Sadly it’s just not working. I’ve spent time evangelizing Signal, I’ve responded to SMS with invite links to Signal and a message that I’d prefer to use Signal. Just a bunch of no’s and one “just grow up and text me back”.
It reached the point where I could tell I was pissing people off so I gave up. Now if messaging apps come up during a family gathering I just say “you know I recommend Signal” and leave it at that.
I’ve had people refuse to do or adopt something just out of spite because I pushed too hard, I don’t think they would go that far here, but better safe than sorry.
I’ve tried to get everyone I know on Signal, so far my mom is the only one who uses it and that’s only when she accidentally taps the wrong icon when she intended to send me an SMS.
And then there’s my stepsister who complains about not being able to have a unified chat because she and family are apple while most of the rest of us are android. Signal Diane, it’s a cross app platform that solves your problem…but no it’s not apple so it won’t work…🤬

Yep, I wish I was totally Microsoft free but sadly my work laptop is Win11. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve sat for over an hour on the phone with a level 1 tech going through the check list of non-fixes so they can bump me up to someone who has the authority to actually fix the issue, all the while thinking to myself “if this was Linux I could fix this myself in 10 minutes”.
True there are other ways to search but I still find that Google surfaces the most relevant answers on the first page. At least when doing technical searches, it’s hit or miss with any other topic.
As a lifetime Windows user who switched to Linux about ten years ago, I recommend Linux Mint. It’s designed to look and feel like Windows 7 so it’s an easier transition when you first move from Windows. Also Mint is a rock solid distribution and has been my daily driver for about 9 years now. And before I forget, Mint has great documentation and community so when you get stuck on something you can easily Google for help.
I bought my Samsung phone directly from Samsung and my carrier is a BYOB Mobile Virtual Network Operator. Before I ever connected my new phone to the carrier network it was riddled with bloatware that I can’t uninstall. Yes carriers are guilty of installing crap, but Samsung is just as guilty.
I’ve bought several Samsung phones over the years and this is the second factory direct phone I’ve received that was like this, they didn’t used to do this crap. Since this seems to be the norm now this will probably be the last Samsung I buy and when it’s time to replace I’ll just get a pixel and flash grapheneos on it, been curious about trying that anyway.
I went from a small business that was entirely G Suite to a mega corp that was entirely Microsoft. Company culture wise the mega corp is soooo much better, technology wise…I felt totally limited and like I had gone back in time.
I went from being able to pull up a Google sheet on my phone to live update decision makers both back in the office and people who were remote, to having to jump through hoops to open an Excel sheet, then request editing rights, then having to submit the edited sheet to my supervisor only for her to have a manager review and approve the edit, and then he’d have to attach the edited version to an all hands email and tell everyone to download and use the new one.
It’s gotten better since I started, we now upload everything to OneDrive, but they can’t seem to get the permissions right and every once in a while someone edits a file and someone has to comb though the edit history to restore it.

My employer uses Citrix to run our proprietary apps. Every “upgrade” they issued just made it worse to the point that it was crashing multiple times and day. Since we’re a 24/7 operation we had to have IT on standby all the time to reboot the servers every time they crashed. Citrix support said there was nothing in the logs other than the crashes so it must be our brand new hardware.
It got so bad that corporate paid the IT team extra to build a web based version as a backup. It’s slower than Citrix but at least when Citrix crashes we have a fallback that works.
Thankfully corporate has given the green light for a custom built system, so now we’re all just waiting for the corporate machine to go through the bidding process so we can start working with whoever they pick.
