IMHO the devs probably wrote this in Swift and just don’t have experience working with android. Whole thing/story is just off IMO.

I’m really just sceptical about the whole thing being closed source really.

It’s 1000% possible to use android apps without involving Google in any way.

Fwiw I use a phone imported from the UK (Nothing Phone 1) in NA without problems so who knows why they won’t do this.

I use F-droid to get my open source apps. Much more trustworthy than Google play. It’s my first stop for anything I’m looking for.

To be fair that’s not really true. Gatekeeper is deeply integrated into the OS and is extremely strict.

As opposed to windows, macOS will effectively refuse to run any software that is not signed and notarized by Apple themselves.

I’m not a fan of this behaviour but that’s the way it is.

This is a thing. It just doesn’t work very reliably for the reasons you mentioned.

It does work kind of ok on some comics like the one OP shared and generally pretty well on manga since that tends to be more consistent with the boxes.

I don’t know of anything open source or self hosted that does this though.

Once again a reasoning human would assume the question is about the mineral.

Ask these questions again in a slightly different way and you might get a correct answer, but it won’t be because the LLM was thinking.

Allowing fdroid from to come from the play store is NOT a solution by any means. Users should have the right to never touch the play store or agree to googles TOS.

I recently started carrying a GPD microPC because of this bullshit.

It’s like a very bulky phone. Pocketable but kinda chonk. Thumb typing kinda thing.

But it runs Fedora + gnome with no problems.

My phone is now just for quick stuff and a way to make a WiFi hotspot.
